Ruben is an immigrant born in Mexico. He is an American politician from Nevada. A Democrat, a member of the Nevada Senate, representing the state’s 10th district in Clark County. In 2010, Kihuen was elected to the Nevada State Senate after the incumbent was term-limited. he is running for U.S. Congress.

Ruben asked Gig if he wanted him to remove the glasses or keep them on for the photo. Gig told him to keep them on.

Update: Ruben won his 2016 U.S. House of Representatives from Nevada election.

The above photo was taken by the Las Vegas Review Journal and posted on their website and probably newspaper. After the photo was taken, the photographer went to Gig asking for his name, and Gig asked what newspaper he was from. The Las Vegas Review Journal is now owned by Sheldon Adelson who is the chairman and chief executive officer of the Las Vegas Sands Corporation which owns the Venetian and Palazzo Resorts in Las Vegas. Adelson is also a staunch supporter and contributor to the Republican Party.

In the photo Gig is probably telling Ruben that he met Ruben’s sister a few weeks earlier.

Unites States President Barack Obama motorcade, Las Vegas, Nevada, October 23, 2016. Closed intersection at Las Vegas Boulevard, also known as the world famous Las Vegas Strip, and Tropicana Avenue. The intersection may have been closed for approximately 45 minutes.

President Obama was probably coming from a scheduled Democrat Organizing Event in the afternoon at Cheyenne High School 3200 W. Alexander Rd. North Las Vegas, 89032.

Gig was scheduled to attend the event but on the same day as the event he decided not to attend. He unexpectedly encountered the motorcade as the President was probably leaving the event and heading to McCarran International Airport. The route was probably the I-15 south, exiting onto the Tropicana Avenue exit, and then traveling east on Tropicana towards the airport.

This was Gig’s 3rd encounter with a motorcade in Las Vegas, NV within 11 days. The first was October 11, 2016 with Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The second was October 13, 2016 with U.S. Vice President Joe Biden.

Followed by a walk down the middle of the Las Vegas Boulevard, also known as the world famous Las Vegas Strip, back to Gig’s vehicle.

Edited conversation between Catherine Cortez Masto (D) and Gig.

Gig: I’m supporting you. This year it’s top to bottom. I am a registered Independent but this year it’s top to bottom Democrat.

Catherine Cortez Masto (D)repeatedly said “Thank You!” to Gig.

Update: Catherine won her 2016 U.S. Senator from Nevada election.

All three of the above photos were taken by U.S. V.P Joe Biden using Gig’s phone.

Edited conversation between Gig and U.S. V.P Joe Biden

Gig: Mr. Vice President

I’m from South Jersey.

Camden, New Jersey

(Gig either said South Jersey or Southern New Jersey. When Gig is in the state of New Jersey or in the area he says South Jersey but when he is in different parts of the country he says Southern New Jersey so that the person he is speaking to understands that he is referencing the state of New Jersey. However, since V.P Joe Biden is from Scranton, Pennsylvania, lived in Delaware since he was 10 years of age which is connected to the state of New Jersey via the Delaware Memorial Bridge, was a Senator from Delaware from 1973-2009, and his son Beau was the Delaware Attorney General who announced a run for Governor before his untimely demise due to cancer, Gig assumed Joe would know what he meant in either formation of the location.)

V.P Joe Biden: (smiling) I married a girl from South Jersey.

Gig: Where?

V.P Joe Biden: Hammonton (Joe was referencing his current wife Dr. Jill Biden)

Gig: That’s where I’m from, my neck of the woods.

(Hammonton is in Atlantic County which is also where Atlantic City, New Jersey is. Atlantic County also borders Camden county which is where Gig lived the first 18 years of his life, and it also borders Burlington county which is where Gig attended high school, and moved to until he moved to Las Vegas.)

Can I get a picture with you?

(Joe then took the camera from Gig, turned to take the picture but could not.)

V.P. Joe Biden: I couldn’t get it. It didn’t work.

(Gig took the phone back and turned the camera back on. It might not have been set for a picture, or timed out.)

Gig: Mr. Vice President I fixed the camera.

(Joe then took the camera back from Gig, turned and then took the above three pictures. Not sure what Joe was seeing in the one photo but the sun was shining very bright. Gig leaned in to make sure he was captured in the photo. As is seen from the photo, Gig was about four people back from the rope line. Gig thinks that is his hand on the V.P.’s shoulder in one of the photos and it appears that a Secret Service Agent was reaching out to Gig’s hand, probably to remove it. If that was Gig’s hand he says that he Gig does not recall feeling the hand of the Secret Service on his, and said he would have just been focused on Joe and the picture.)

Note: If you call out to the Vice President of the United States you will probably draw the attention of the Secret Service, especially after the speech was interrupted twice. The first time the speech was interrupted, a man shouted out something crude about President Clinton while holding a sign and turning to face the media. This man ranged from approximately 3-10 feet behind Gig and was ushered out by the local security detail. The second interruption during the speech was from a young man approximately 5-10 feet in front of Gig in the grey t-shirt, shouting out a question. “… do you condemn the war in Saudi Arabia? Condemn the war… by the Hoothies” Local security, seen in the yellow vests, went over to the young man but Joe Biden said not to throw him out and answered his question. The young man then gave the Vice President a thumbs up to his answer.

Secret Service agents eventually went over to the young man and stood behind him throughout the remainder of the Vice President’s speech and particularly after the speech when Joe Biden scheduled to go to the rope line to meet and greet with the attendees.

United States of America Vice President Joe Biden motorcade, driving into the Culinary Union Local 226 Hall, Las Vegas, Nevada Thursday October 13, 2016 12:28 pm 25 seconds long.

Also speaking at the event is former two time Nevada Attorney General (2007-2015) and current Nevada Democrat U.S. Senator candidate Catherine Cortez Masto who, if she wins the Senate race, would become the first Latina in the U.S. Senate.

Update: Catherine won her 2016 U.S. Senator from Nevada election.

Video depicts the motorcade, police escort and Secret Service Agents who were also posted on the roof of the building.

The motorcade travels at a high rate of speed, which Gig noticed the previous day with the motorcade of Former First Lady, Secretary of State and Senator Hillary Clinton, as they drove on local roads heading to a political rally at The Smith Center in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada. They probably drive at a high rate of speed for security purposes.

Note the tent that the vehicles drive under at their final destination before the occupants exit the vehicle. This too is probably due to security purposes and to prevent observation from overhead cameras and spy satellite visuals and lip reading.

Note what appears to be a communications vehicle that stops just outside of the tent. That vehicle may be used to secure the communications of those in the motorcade and to block (jam) any attempts from unauthorized personnel from overhearing the communications.

Also note a Secret Service Agent moving rapidly from left to right of the tent, towards the event building, after someone draws the tent closed on a couple of the vehicles inside.

Elizabeth Warren U.S. Senator (D-MA), Las Vegas Springs Preserve, 333 S Valley View Blvd, Las Vegas, Nevada 89107, October 4, 2016

Regardless of your political views, Gig said that if you ever get the opportunity, go to a live speech delivered by Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA). He said that she delivers a very passionate, energized and dynamic speech.

Edited conversation between Gig and Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) after the speeches concluded.

Gig: You’ve got to run for President.

Senator Warren(D-MA): (laughing) Not yet.

(She then continued saying something about getting the vote out to support Hillary Clinton, Catherine Cortez Masto and the entire Democrat ticket.)

Gig: I am from New Jersey, and we from the east coast say Nev-odd-a.

(During her speech she pronounced the Silver State as Nev-odd-a and was quickly corrected by a woman in the audience with Nev-add-a. When Jeb Bush gave a speech in Henderson Nevada that Gig attended during the primaries, he too said Nev-odd-a and was later criticized for it. Even Donald Trump says Nev-odd-a and says that is the correct way to say the state name and will not change.)

Senator Warren (D-MA): (laughing hysterically and patting Gig on his back and shoulders) Yes. But Nevadans have a right to call it whatever they want.

(She then continued speaking to Gig and patting him on the back and shoulder and laughing. Gig thinks she also went on to say something about supporting the ticket.)

Photos of Gig and the Governor having a conversation
Valley View Recreation Center, Henderson, Nevada, June 27, 2015
Excerpt from the conversation between Gig Schmidt and Governor Jeb Bush after his approximately 30 minute speech.
Gig: Governor, I am a registered independent and I am supporting you this year. (Although Gig meant to say that he “might” be supporting you. He is also considering former First Lady, Secretary of State and New York Senator Hillary Clinton (D) and others. Gig is very understanding of all political views and describes himself as basically, socially liberal like a Democrat, fiscally conservative like a Republican (except he supports a significant increase in the minimum wage and equal pay for equal work) and he has beliefs regarding foreign affairs and the military similar to a Libertarian. Technically, Gig also should not have said to Governor Bush “this year” but rather this Presidential election, or next year.)
Governor Bush: (patting Gig on his shoulder) Thank you. That’s great. But can you participate in the caucus for me?
Gig: No
Governor Bush: So this is a closed caucus State?
Gig: Yes
Governor Bush: Can you temporarily register in the short term and caucus for me?
(The Nevada Republican party caucus is a closed caucus, open only to those who are registered as a Republican 30 days before the caucus date. The Nevada Democrat party is also a closed caucus, open only to registered Democrats, but they differ by allowing people to register as a Democrat the same day as the caucus.)
Gig: Yes, I could do that.
Governor Bush: (slapping Gig on the shoulder and pointing to Gig) Great, Than you do that.
Then when Gig and the Governor began to part the Governor turned back to Gig and said something to the effect of, “Brother, I could really use the support.” Or he said “Brother, I could really use the help”.
Apparently Governor Bush is concerned about winning his party nomination. The Governor said at least twice during his 30 minute speech earlier something about “the other 65 people running for President as a Republican” which got laughs from the crowd. There are currently 13 major Republicans announced for President with more to come such as New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R) next week. As of August 7, 2015 there are officially 539 total Presidential candidates. More than any other election year and about 15% more than the 2012 election. Of those running approximately 100 are registered as Democrats, 100 as Republicans and 300 as Other. Most are unknown to the general public and are not current or former members of the US Congress or Governors. Gig also noticed that Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) appeared to have a larger audience at his speech in Las Vegas on April 11, 2015. The local ABC news media affiliate estimated approximately 300 in attendance for Governor Bush.
During the Governor’s speech he appeared a little sensitive about people not acknowledging his other siblings.  When someone mentioned something about “your brother”, he responded in jest with, “you mean Marvin, or Neil?”. The Governor also has two sisters in a family of six siblings.
On July 6, 2015 Gig received a phone message from the Jeb Bush for President Nevada headquarters to thank him for attending the event in Henderson, to ask what he thought of the event and what his level of support was, and to ask if Gig was going to caucus for Jeb in Nevada in February 2016. To date, Gig has not returned the call. And on September 17, 2015 Gig received a communication from Alex Lundry, the Chief Analytics Officer for the Jeb 2016 Campaign, and was solicited for a donation.
Gig believes the single most important issue in the 2016 Presidential election, which was Gig’s primary issue in the 2000 Presidential election, may be that the next President might be tasked with appointing 1-4 new Supreme Court Justices. Especially since Ruth Bador Ginsburg is 82 years of age and a survivor of colon cancer in 1999 and pancreatic cancer in 2009. The Supreme Court currently has 5 conservative leaning Justices nominated by Republican Presidents (2 George W. Bush, 1 George H. Bush, 2 Ronald Reagan) and 4 liberal leaning Justices nominated by Democrat Presidents (2 Barack Obama, 2 Bill Clinton). The court tends to vote 5-4 either way, liberal or conservative, on many vital social issues, with Ruth Bador Ginsburg characterized as a liberal.
With the current state of political infighting in the U.S. Congress, it would appear that Presidential and Congressional elections are less likely to resolve issues. The Supreme Court however, does resolve issues. Particularly social issues.
Update: February 12-13, 2016, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, characterized as a staunch conservative, passed away suddenly in his sleep. In March 2016, President Obama nominated Judge Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court as the replacement, but Republicans refused to hold a hearing on any nominations until after the November 2016 Presidential elections, thereby postponing the next Justice nomination to The Supreme Court of The United States to be made by the next President of the U.S. in 2017.
Update: Jeb Bush lost his bid for the U.S. Presidential Republican Party nomination.
Update: Regarding “closed” state primaries and caucuses. In addition to Nevada, New York state is also a closed primary state. Ivanka Trump and Eric Trump were not able to vote for their own father in the New York presidential primaries because they were registered as Independents, and not aware of the closed state rules requiring them to be registered as Republicans by October 9, 2015, to be able to vote for their father, the eventual 45th President of the U.S., Donald Trump.

Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Goodman, The Self Proclaimed “Happiest Mayor in the World” (Independent, former Democrat), 1999-Current, Downtown Fremont Street, Las Vegas, Nevada, September 29, 2010

Gig and Mayor Oscar Goodman have met a couple of times and during their second meeting, which Gig thinks these pictures were taken, they spoke about people and businesses that they both knew. Oscar and Gig were both born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and spoke about The Latin Casino, which was in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Gig’s father and Oscar both knew the owner. Gig would sit in the front row with his family and family friends for shows, and remembers seeing and speaking with Diana Ross while she was onstage, when he was a very young boy. She played The Dating Game with Gig and a girl at another front row table at her show. Gig said he must have been around 5-7 years old.

Gig is not sure, but he does not think he mentioned “Little” Nicky Scarfo’s name to Oscar. Oscar was the former attorney representing many “alleged” organized crime (mob) members including Little Nicky Scarfo. One of Oscar’s most notorious clients was reputed Chicago mobster Anthony “Tony the Ant” Spilotro, who was known to have a short and violent temper. In the semi-factual 1995 movie Casino, the character of Nicky Santoro was based on Spilotro and was portrayed by actor Joe Pesci. Goodman had a cameo appearance in the film as himself while defending “Ace Rothstein”, a character closely based on Stardust Casino boss Frank ‘Lefty’ Rosenthal and played by Robert De Niro.

Gig’s father told him that in Atlantic City, either the boss of the Philadelphia crime family “Little” Nicky Scarfo or his “employees”/”friends” i.e. captains or lieutenants, would push an envelope towards Gig’s father and say this is for you. They would also say that they could get Gig into the roofer’s union in Washington, D.C. while he was in college and knew college expenses were high and could be difficult for a parent. Gig’s father would push the envelope back and decline the envelope and union membership offer.  It was never spoken, but Gig’s father knew there was cash in the envelope and that they would want something in return, especially from his position and power as the Chief Inspector of the New Jersey Athletic Boxing Commission. This was during a time that Atlantic City, New Jersey was the boxing capital of the world. Not Las Vegas as it is today.

This is the first time Gig has ever disclosed this information in a public forum. With the passing of time and circumstances Gig says he may begin to release additional information, and maybe write a book. Gig also says that if you lived in the Southern New Jersey or South Philadelphia area it was not uncommon to know people that were connected to the mob and that he himself has personal stories of people he met or was friendly with, that he may share in the future.
